The lines have fallen to me in pleasant places; Indeed, my heritage is beautiful to me. ~ Psalm 16:6 nasb

Happy Anniversary

September 10.

A few days before our anniversary, before Fernando went out of town on a satellite transmission job with STS, Fernando and I celebrated our 27th anniversary.  I didn't mind him being gone on our anniversary; it was work, and he needed work badly at that point.  So we celebrated early.  Danny took the pictures.

My Papi and I.

Love you, honey.  You're the best, my best friend.

Fernando's note to me, on Facebook (of course!):

You have loved me from the start.
You ARE my gift from my God. You continue to be a safe haven when the storm rages outside...and continue to be my best friend. 27 years ago, when we married, I knew you were beautiful & I loved you. Now I see how shallow my love for you was back then. In spite of it being a rough year, you continue to remain beautiful & strong. You are amazing & my best friend.

I. LOVE. YOU!
Happy Anniversary!

My note to Fernando, also on Facebook for the world to see:

Twenty-seven years. Sometimes richer, sometimes poorer, sometimes in sickness and sometimes in health, but always with cherishing and love, always with Jesus, every single day, never one doubt. I love you, Papi.

My Knight in Shining Kneepads

I love my husband.  But you already know that.   He is funny, goofy, and sweet, and he adores me.  But you probably already know that, too.  :)

He melted my frugal heart when he decided to fix the pickup truck himself.

He gave up two weekends to research online, read Chilton's manuals, purchase truck parts, and work on his truck.  I am so proud of his hard work and dedication to getting the job done.

He was able to fix most of the issues we were having, and after a nice experience with a good mechanic, the truck is fixed.

I love you, my dearie Fernando!  You are strong and brave and handsome, even with kneepads on and grease under your nails.  xoxo

Twenty-Three

I married my sweetheart on September 12, 1987.  Twenty-three years later, I still thank the Lord daily for my husband.  He is the Lord's best gift to me.  He is an ocean of treasure, into whose depths I sometimes feel I have barely dipped my toes.

Daily surprising, annoyingly spontaneous, always special.  Yeah, we fight.  But not much.  He is my Googly-Bear.  (Pamela, you're right--sometimes love is mushy-gushy!)

My rock, standing on the Rock.

The man said,
"This is now bone of my bones,
And flesh of my flesh;
She shall be called Woman,
Because she was taken out of Man."
For this reason a man shall leave his father and his mother,
and be joined to his wife;
and they shall become one flesh.
Genesis 2:23-24 nasb

Love: A Commitment to Steadfastness

Because I've been experiencing camera withdrawal symptoms all week, I've been thinking about my blogs--especially this one.  Looking back through my photos, I realized that I captured several great shots of my parents.  So I've been thinking about them, and the legacy--the heritage--they've given me.

Just the fact that they're married, and have been married this long while (48 years), is a testimony to the heritage they've created, even if they haven't realized it.  Though my own marriage is very different from theirs--anyone who knows my darling husband would know this--their steadfastness of commitment to each other shines through, and is reflected in my marriage to Fernando.

I've seen them laugh together.  I've seen them kiss.  :)  I've seen them fight and make up.  I've seen that love isn't a mushy gushy feeling; it is a solid, everyday commitment to one's spouse, in good times and bad, with ups and downs, all along the way, no matter what.

I grew up with safety and security in the knowledge that dads and moms stay together.  I never even thought about it until my adult years.

Their life isn't perfect.  Whose is??  But they are together.  The two as one.

A beautiful heritage of steadfast love.
