Rhode Island, Part Two

August 20.

Fernando wanted to visit the Beavertail Lighthouse, so that was our destination for the day.

One look out into the bay, and I knew I could stay for hours.

This is my favorite image from our weekend together.

After lingering on the rocks and watching the sea, we meandered into Narragansett for some food.

Yelp proved to be our friend, and it brought us to another out-of-the-way eatery that was fabulous.  I was stuffed!

Behind that eatery lay the rocks, and the ocean.

Tripod, camera, and wireless remote shutter release gave us half an hour to stage an oceanside photo session.

Treasure the moments.  We did.

Rhode Island, Part One

August 19.

We didn't have the money, but I bought a plane ticket and flew east.

Not in Chicago any more.

Fernando and I spent our first day together walking the Cliff Walk along the sea, just walking, talking, ambling, taking pictures, and just being together.

The mansions along the cliff were impressive--and that's putting it mildly.

Camera on a rock--selfie.

I could just sit and listen, watch and dream.

We found a humble diner with the most amazing stuffies and New England clam chowder.  I have found a new favorite!

I let my honey snap my picture at the fountain at our hotel.

Goodbye, Lake B

Monday morning, August 15.

My goodbye ritual remains the same.  When the (rental!) car is packed and we're ready to head home, I head on down to the lake for one last look.  It didn't disappoint, either, with a picture perfect scene complete with wispy clouds as I stood on the dock.

So many memories, stored up in my heart as I turn my face toward home life, treasures I pull out as I close my eyes and see these scenes.  Goodbye, Lake Bonaparte--I will see you next summer, Lord willing.

Last Day on the Lake

Sunday, August 14.

I let my camera rest on Saturday, while Dad and Mom, and Fernando and I went into Watertown to get a rental car.  Mom and I convinced the guys to stop at a resale shop, and then we made our way back to the lake.  It rained that evening, and I didn't pick up my camera again until Sunday night's sunset, which started as a bit disappointing...

But then, the colors soon unfolded, bit by bit.

And the sky became ablaze with layers of color, from swaths of dark gray to bright orange puffs, and stripes of orangey-red along the horizon.

A while after sunset, I captured this "blue hour" photo below.  Surreal!

A perfect end to our lake vacation this year.
