The Lake -- Day Six

Friday, July 24.

This week went by too fast.  Today's POD (plan of the day) for me was to go with Dad and Mom into Carthage to the Friday farmers market, so Mom could pick up a few things for her and Dad for the next week, and for me to purchase fresh eggs to bring home.

After the farmers market, we drove back through town and past Dad's old childhood home.  Dad and Mom thought it had changed drastically when they drove by it the week before, but we all think that they went down a different street, because the house still looks like it did several years ago.

Jake, Allie and Joseph spent the afternoon at the dock, enjoying the warmth of the sun because it was still cool.  Joseph had gotten a cold, and so had I, so I snapped a picture then napped in a chair in the sun.

Fernando had gone out in the Caddy fishing, and I was at the dock to greet him.

Fernando made a unilateral decision to go into Carthage to eat at Stefano's Pizza!  Tom and Bea (lake friends) told us to get the garlic knots--I could've eaten just those for dinner and been happy.  Yum!

I'm so glad the sun sets later in the evening during summer!  We were home in time.  *happy*

We had a fairly laid back week at the lake this year, especially without Danny and Thomas.  There was just one more day to enjoy before heading home.

Porches, Parks, a Palette of Color

Or, the first half of our second week of vacation.

We started our Sunday with a quiet morning on the back porch:

 We had the privilege of attending our cousins' church and seeing them baptized!!  Afterwards, we picnicked with them at their church picnic at Thompson Park:

Back at the Lake, I spent time whenever I could sitting and waiting for this little guy to show up.  He was sure hard to capture:

Thus ended the Lord's Day:

Fernando made sure he got in his exercise.  Here he is not getting run over by the kayak:

I went fishing with Fernando and Jacob.  Actually, I read a book and Fernando and Jacob went fishing:

The sunsets were absolutely amazing.  Again:

We never skimped on breakfast, and ate like kings and queens (recipe here):

Sunday at Montrose

Fernando and I had Part One of our anniversary date last Sunday.  We ended up downtown at Montrose Harbor, where, despite the cloudy gloom, I enjoyed the view from behind the lens, and Fernando enjoyed the prospect of catching a few fish.

We didn't do much talking, but Fernando explained that he can fish all afternoon without saying much at all.  I think this is the only time he doesn't talk.  It was a peaceful afternoon of spending time together.

At one point, a young boy plopped his fishing gear and a bucket down right next to us.  He got his bait ready and threw in his line.  He was not shy, and was soon chatting with Fernando (okay, what is it that people of all ages find so inviting in a dark, linebacker-sized bearded man??).  Generous man that he is, Fernando helped the boy hook his bait, and even gave him a bobber and a weight for his line.  Was that boy ever excited!

I enjoyed watching all the sailboats glide across the water, while weekend life hummed along just beyond the shoreline.

All in all, it was a good day.

Havin' Fun on the Lake

I've already posted my vacation photos on Facebook; however, since getting serious about photography, I've edited them all to reflect that leaning.  So, I'm reminiscing about our very recent vacation, and wanted to show y'all where we were and what we did for two weeks.  It'll be in small chunks, in case you get bored--who wants to see someone else's 200 vacation photos all in one sitting???  Or at all??  :)

So, if you're interested, early on in our vacation, we spent some time on the Lake.  My cousin Al freely lets us use his pontoon boat, which is super because there are six of us.  We boated, a few of us cast lures or roped (see below), Danny kayaked, we swam, and of course, we all played Frisbee.
