Late September Garden

Here's what was happening in my garden, late September.

Overview of an overgrown garden!

Some marigolds were still blooming in the corners of the green bean patch:

All my cayenne peppers turned red this year:

My plum tomato harvest remained steady throughout the summer:

I planted only a few jalapeƱo plants this year; I harvested them once early on, then just let them grow the rest of the summer.  They got really big.

The strawberry plants grew and grew, expanding to fill a whole square section!

I let the oregano go to flower, since I had already harvested so much this year.

Time to pick the rest of the carrots!  This sweet Nantes variety is short and stubby.

Finally, I had another large harvest of cherry tomatoes.  These were extraordinarily sweet!

Late Summer Harvest

Here are just a few images of our late summer harvest, the end of August.

Sweet red peppers, lots of red cayenne, and a few plum tomatoes.

Plum tomato and its reflection.  :)

Nantes carrots.  This variety is shorter and stubbier, but oh, so sweet.

Back to the garden for tomatoes and a few green beans.

Stringing 'Em Up

October was a beautiful month.  I enjoyed the sunny skies and intense colors so much; autumn is my favorite time of year.

It was nice to sit down over a cup of sipping chocolate and write down all the things I needed to do.

My daily docket

The main project for that day in October was processing my cayenne peppers.  There was one relatively small pile that we picked off my plants before uprooting them and preparing the beds for winter.

I used a needle and thread to string my cayenne, much like stringing popcorn.

I ended up with several strings.

Earlier in the summer, I draped the peppers along my dining room curtain rod.  Then I started hanging them from the dining room chandelier.  This time I decided to hang them from the breakfast area hanging light.  It worked pretty well!

And gathers her provision in the harvest.
