Almost Christmas

December 21.

A few days before Christmas, when our hearts are still filled with anticipation of celebrating the birth of Christ, sharing special time with family, opening our hearts with gifts to each other, spending sweet time in fellowship with friends...  It was a day for singing!

We hosted a neighborhood caroling party, with fellowship throughout the afternoon, a shared meal at dinnertime, and finally, singing from door to door in our neighborhood.  Here is the singing group, going through a few of the Christmas carols before heading out to knock on their first door:

They were gone for a long time, but--faithful as usual--they rang our own doorbell and caroled the few of us who stayed behind!

Gloria in Excelsis Deo!

From Ceremonies to Celebration

May 11.

What a whirlwind weekend--from an almost-four-hour drive down to Macomb with a packed Suburban (Mom and Dad came with us), to two special ceremonies for Jacob, to the long drive home, then to bed and up early for church, and one last big celebration for Jacob!  We figured we'd get it all done in one weekend; plus, it was the only weekend my parents would be in town and able to come celebrate with us.

Due to our current financial situation, we invited a small group of friends to celebrate with us.

Dad and Jacob's friend Caleb work a crossword together.

Fernando talks with my brother Jeff.

Two cakes!

Somehow, smart phones appear at every celebration...!

My mom put together a yummy hot sandwich for our potluck meal.

Fernando, the dedicated Grillmaster.

Jacob, with brothers, friends, and a photobomber (yeah, he's a friend, too!).

For he's a jolly good fellow!

Climbin' a Rock

We had so much fun watching and/or climbing, and I took so many photos, that I wanted to share a second post about our rock-wall-climbing adventure.  (My first post was about Joseph and his experience with rock-wall climbing.)

Besides that triumphant time, everyone else had fun, too.  Here's the proof:

One of the harder climbs--follow the blue tape.

The younger guys had just as much fun as the older ones.

Thomas went right on up.

Immanuel followed Thomas up.

Danny and Joseph climbed together!

Danny helped Isaiah with securing his gear.

Marc.

Isaiah at the top.

Um, that's Marc.

Rebecca.

Rachel.

Tressey.

Even little Kaitlyn climbed!

With the right composition, the ladies-in-skirts can be made to look like they're climbing...

Stephen waved for the camera.

Stephen and Thomas.

Tressey rang the bell!

We had a great time!  We're thankful to the Lord for friends who provide awesome adventures for us.

He is Risen!

I'm finally blogging about Resurrection Sunday!  It's so hard to play catch-up; I've taken so many photos and I want to document everything.  :)

Resurrection Sunday is so special, with starting the day at church.  This is what it's all about--Jesus triumphed over the grave!  These stained glass windows, though beautifully reflecting the light, cannot begin to show the Light of the world.

For the afternoon, we had our family over for celebration and a meal together.  Though our meal is non-traditional for Resurrection Sunday, we had a barbecue, as we did last year.  It was so nice having Fernando as grillmaster.

My sister-in-law went out to check on the chicken she brought for the grill.

Fernando dished up ribs, chicken pieces, bratwurst, and the chicken roaster.  :)

Always diligent, Fernando cleaned up the grill.

There was no time for pictures during the meal, but I most definitely had my camera out afterwards.  My dad was turning 80 (!!!) later in the week, and we surprised him with streamers and balloons, and of course cake and ice cream, and strawberries with fresh cream.

Happy Resurrection Day (very late)!  And Happy Birthday, Dad!!  Love you!
