Happy Birthday!
Today is my best friend's birthday. She listens with her whole heart, and shares from it, too. I don't need to ask, "Know what I mean?" because she does. She gets me. She encourages me, supports me, and loves me like a sister. Her friendship is a treasured gift from God. Happy birthday, Tressey!

Chicago Air and Water Show
Today Fernando took me downtown Chicago, right to Lake Michigan, to experience the Air and Water Show for my very first time.
Our sweet friend Jeannice came with us, as well as Jake and Joe. It was amazing!
Here are my favorite photos...

August Harvest
Home from vacation, and time to get out to the garden to see what's up. Harvest was up--that's what was up!
The short, stubby carrots were really funny looking. Yes, they're supposed to be "short and sweet." The longer, skinnier ones were a different variety, and (as I processed them) were easier to peel.
Even though my tomato plants looked straggly, they had a nice yield, and a nice variety.
Now my work is cut out for me--I have to process all of this!

Goodbye, Lake B
Monday morning, August 15.
My goodbye ritual remains the same. When the (rental!) car is packed and we're ready to head home, I head on down to the lake for one last look. It didn't disappoint, either, with a picture perfect scene complete with wispy clouds as I stood on the dock.
So many memories, stored up in my heart as I turn my face toward home life, treasures I pull out as I close my eyes and see these scenes. Goodbye, Lake Bonaparte--I will see you next summer, Lord willing.

Last Day on the Lake
Sunday, August 14.
I let my camera rest on Saturday, while Dad and Mom, and Fernando and I went into Watertown to get a rental car. Mom and I convinced the guys to stop at a resale shop, and then we made our way back to the lake. It rained that evening, and I didn't pick up my camera again until Sunday night's sunset, which started as a bit disappointing...
But then, the colors soon unfolded, bit by bit.
And the sky became ablaze with layers of color, from swaths of dark gray to bright orange puffs, and stripes of orangey-red along the horizon.
A while after sunset, I captured this "blue hour" photo below. Surreal!
A perfect end to our lake vacation this year.
